Reseda Regents Class History
W'59 Seignions - S'59 Empyreans - W'60 Thalians - S'60
Saroyans - W'61 Titans - S'61 Adelphians
Reseda High School opened its gates in September 1955.
It was the first new high school in the middle of the San Fernando Valley (aka
The Valley) in urban Los Angeles. Our mascot "the Regent" was depicted with a
human body with a lion's head wearing a cape and a crown. The Regent logo was
drawn by a father of one the students who worked for Disney at the time. We were
the first school to have three school colors: Columbia blue, Navy blue and
White. Our principal and teachers were hand selected and did all they could to
make our school mature and competitive in every possible way. It worked because
our sports, track & field and gymnastic teams along with our illustrious Band
and Drill Team all excelled above the other schools in our area. We had great
school spirit and cared about each other; it was a much kinder society in those
days. To see more of the beginning story of Reseda High School and the Reseda
Regents, check the following website; it is the vision of Jim Rowe of Reseda
High School Class of W58. www.angelfire.com/ri/resedahigh/index.html
The Winter 57 Class was the first to graduate; that was at the end of January
1957. The first class to attend all the way through to graduation was the Summer
Class of 1958. Winter and Summer classes were combined to a single graduation
year in June 1967; the Winter 1966 Class students had to go to school for an
extra six months.

Classes of Winter 1960 Thalians & Summer 1960 Saroyans
In 1970 our Reseda High School 10 year reunion was held for the W'60 Thalians and S'60 Saroyans at
the Odyssey in Granada Hills. That was when we had a birds-eye view of the fires
around the whole LA basin and Simi Valley.
In 1980 our RHS 20 year reunion for the W60 and S60 Classes was held at the Woodland
Hills Country Club. The evening was enthusiastically celebrated by almost 400
people. The Master of Ceremonies for the Thalian Class was Jack Ross and the
Master of Ceremonies for the Saroyan Class was John Calvert. The next day there was a family picnic held at Reseda Park.
This reunion was such a success that many expressed how much they would enjoy
another reunion in 5 years.
In 1985 we held our Reseda High School Class of '60 - 25 year reunion for the
W-60 and S-60 classes at the new Airtel Plaza
Hotel in Van Nuys. Again, the evening was enthusiastically celebrated by almost
400 people - Saroyans, Thalians and guests. The Masters of Ceremonies for the
evening were Frank Curcio and Ed Koch. The additional activities were both a family picnic at Reseda Park and
our first RHS Reunion cruise as a group, which was a 7-day Mexican Riviera
cruise aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' ship the Tropicalé. Those attending cruises
were hereafter dubbed "The Cruisers".
In 1990 our 30th reunion for the Reseda Regents Classes of W'60 and S'60 was
again held at the Airtel Plaza
Hotel. Our theme was Rockin' Rollin' 'n Cruisin' and MC's were Alisa (Soltes)
D'Alessandro and Karen (Sands) Meisel. Our additional activity was a 10-day
Caribbean Cruise aboard Princess Cruise Lines cruise ship the Sky Princess.
July of 1992 we held a Class 50th Birthday Party at the Doubletree Hotel in San
Pedro for the W60 and S60 Classes. The Reseda Regents Thalians and Saroyans were
together again. The next day "The Cruisers" took a 4-day West Coast cruise on Royal
Caribbean Cruise Lines' Viking Serenade.
Reseda Regents Classes of 1959 & 1960
In 1995 we invited the RHS Classes of 1959 - Winter (Seignions) and Summer
(Empyreans) to join us for our "Thirty-Something" 35 year reunion at the Pickwick Center
in Burbank. The additional activity was a 10-day Caribbean Cruise aboard
Carnival Cruise Lines cruise ship Festivalé, which was decommissioned two
cruises later.
July of 1997 the Reseda High School Cruisers took an off year (non-event) cruise to Alaska for
10 days aboard the Legend of the Seas.
Reseda Regents Classes of 1959, 1960 & 1961
In November 2000 we invited the Reseda Regents Classes of W61 Titans and S61 Adelphians
along with the W59 Seignions and S59 Empyreans to join us for our "Rockin' n
Rollin' in the 50's" 40 year Class Reunion held at the Airtel Plaza Hotel
in Van Nuys. It was spectacular with thirteen of our high school teachers in
attendance, including Leonard Gagliardi and June Robathan who were thrilled as
the high school dance band played and drill team did a routine along
with Teacher, Oz Osborn who presented high school swat paddles, complete with
swat, at the reunion. The adjunct activity was a 10-Day cruise in the
Mediterranean aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' ship the Legend of the
Seas.
October 6, 2002 we had a Class 60th Birthday Party at the Hilton Hotel, Port
of Los Angeles in San Pedro for classmates and schoolmates, whoever wanted to
join us. "The Cruisers" took a 4-day West Coast cruise on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines'
Vision of the Seas.
July of 2003 the RHS Cruisers took a 12-day cruise to Scandinavia and Russia
aboard the Grandeur of the Seas.
February 19, 2005 we had another Reseda High School reunion for Reseda Regents
Classes of '59 '60 and '61. This "Forty-Something" 45 year reunion with "Happy
Memories, Happy Times" was celebrated at the Pickwick
Gardens in Burbank. After all these years it was such a pleasure to reunite with
our fellow classmates, the W59 Seignions, S59 Empyreans, W60 Thalians, S60
Saroyans, W60 Titans and S60 Adelphians. Departing on Wed Feb 23, our adjunct activity was a 12-day Australia/New Zealand
cruise on Princess Cruises' new Sapphire Princess sailing from Auckland, New
Zealand.
Saturday, September 25, 2010 we celebrated our 50 year
reunion at the Marriott Convention Center, across the street from the Burbank
Airport. The Summer and Winter classes of 1959, 1960 & 1961 again joined
together in perhaps our largest reunion yet with over 400 attendees and indeed
it was "Fabulous!" Many expressed this also included perhaps the finest of
dinners yet at any of our reunions. Again we were honored and fortunate to have
six of our high school teachers in
attendance with four accompanied by spouses. Following dinner, introductions, a
little entertainment and lots of wonderful mingling, the evening completed with
dancing to memorable music. On Sunday, approximately 100 attended a picnic held
at Woodley Park in Van Nuys. The adjunct activity was a 16-Day cruise in the
Orient departing Beijing, China October 4 and arriving Singapore October 20,
2010.
